The group holds monthly meetings, usually on a Thursday evening in the village hall in the winter months and visit local historic sites in the summer months. If you’d like to come along, see the Programme page for more information.
Funding & Projects
The group was successful in gaining a heritage lottery grant of £38,500 in 2008 along with a grant from the Parish Council of £2,000 to fund a five-section heritage project as follows:
1 Produce a book, Thurgoland in Times Past, with photographs and text of the history of the village.
2 Create a DVD containing 455 photographs taken from glass negative plates and other loaned photographs.
3 Produce a heritage trail which is a circular route taking in most of Thurgoland’s heritage sites. Available free of charge (contact us) or with the book and DVD.
4 Create a website, www.thurgolandhistory.co.uk.
5 Restore and make safe the footway of the village pump on Halifax Road near the cross roads.
Both the book and DVD are available from us at a cost of £2.50 EACH + postage. If you’d like a copy, please get in touch.
